Pet Painting #4 Fabu and Henri

fabuandhenri Acrylic on 12×12 canvas.

This portrait is #4, but Fabu Babu is definitely our #1 dog.

When we went to the pound to find our perfect not too big, not too small, not too old, not too young, good with kids dog, there was a dog that seemed to be just right sitting in one of the small kennels.  He had been there 10 days, and the staff member who took us to see him said he would take this one home himself if we passed him up.

The man reached into the kennel and pulled out a tan mop.  He was adorable, and only one year old, but was he good with kids?  I held him up to Henri, who was about 18 months old at the time. Henri reached out joyfully and the dog reached back joyfully and scratched him right on the face.  After some crying, both Henri and the dog calmed down and they’ve been friends ever since.

We named him Fabu Babu (Faboo Baboo).  Fabu for fabulous and Babu after the mispronunciation of “bad boy” that our kids used when they were younger.  He was Babu for scratching Henri on the face and then Fabu from then on out.
